Top 4 Event Software Security Considerations
Posted on Mon, Jul 04, 2011
When it comes to working online, security is our main priority. And, it is for our users.
We've experienced an increase in calls asking about online security and what to look for from reliable registration providers. So, here are our top 4 considerations when registering for an event online or running online registration.
1. Is the event organiser legitimate?
Many event management software providers are offering a "freemium" solution that allows just about anyone to create events on their platform and then charges a per ticket fee for paid events. This makes it an easy target for criminals to develop legitimate looking event websites and registrations and then steal the credit card information or identity of registrants. If you're ever in doubt as to who an event organiser is while you're registering, Google them and make sure they are legitimate.
2. How are they taking payments?
If you're not going through a trusted payment gateway like PayPal, SagePay, WorldPay, NetBanx or Authorize.Net then you may be handing over your credit card information into the wrong hands. Make sure you are only using or entering your payment details to parties who are PCI compliant to ensure you're being protected.

3. Make sure pages are secure If you're entering your personal, preference and contact details on a registration page, look to see that the URL contains https:, which indicates it supports SSL. SSL is short for Secure Sockets Layer, which many browsers and websites support to encrypt your form data from third parties. If pages aren't using SSL, your information can be viewed by hackers or viruses, putting you at risk.

4. Private events should remain private
For many large corporations, governments and defense organisations, every aspect of an event needs to be private. Websites, registrations, agendas and documents should be password protected to ensure they don't show up in search results or in the hands of the wrong audience.
At Eventsforce, we do all of the above. We only license on an annual basis, which means that only legitimate, highly-professional, recognisable event organisers use our system. Guaranteed.
And, to ensure registration payment information is secure and event organisers are fully protected, we integrate with all the above payment gateways. We don't manage your payments - it's all handled through your provider.
All of our registration pages use secure SSL encryption to ensure information is safe from hackers. We also undergo regular penetration testing to not only guarantee there are zero security holes in our system, but to maintain the highest security standards.
And finally, we have an easy facility for event managers to manage who can access different content and to make entire registration sites private.
